Yep you read the title correctly. This is a recipe for chocolate banana bread. Rich, moist, delicious, chocolate….need I say more? I adapted this recipe from a banana nut bread recipe my aunt shared with me.
Every year at Christmas my aunt would bring my dad a loaf of her banana nut bread. My dad would always swoon. It was and still is his absolute favorite. She gratefully shared the recipe with me so I would be able to make it anytime for him.
Me being the chocolate lover that I am decided on changing the recipe around to make it well…..chocolately!!!
I hope you enjoy this recipe as much as I do.
Chocolate Banana Bread
- 1 cup white sugar
- 1/4 cup light brown sugar
- 1/2 cup butter, softened (1 stick)
- 2 eggs
- 4 tablespoons plain green yogurt
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 cup banana pulp
- 1 cup flour – I used a gluten free flour, regular all purpose works as well.
- 1/2 cup cocoa powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 1/2 cups semi sweet chocolate chips
Cream butter and sugars. Add eggs to creamed mixture. Dissolve baking soda in Greek yogurt and add to mixture.
Add smashed banana to mixture, add remaining ingredients and 1/2 cup of chocolate chips. Mix just until combined.
Pour into greased and floured 9in loaf pan. Top with 1 cup chocolate chips. Pressing down on chips with your hand so slightly pressed into batter.
Bake at 350 for 1 hour to 1 hour and 15 minutes. Until knife comes out clean of middle. I start checking mine around 55 minutes.
